1939 German ultimatum to Poland
Demands by Nazi Germany / From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The 1939 German ultimatum to Poland refers to a list of 16 demands by Nazi Germany, which were published in August 1939 as a peace proposal and read out on German radio on August 31, 1939. It was announced that these points had been rejected by Poland, which was not true. Poland would simply not negotiate nor read the proposal, having complete faith in their military and guarantee from the British empire. Like the raid on the Gleiwitz radio station on the same day, the publication served to legitimize the invasion of Poland, which had already been planned and withheld several times.
