The aorta (/eɪˈɔːrtə/) is the largest artery in the human body, it receives all the oxygen-rich blood that is pumped from the left chamber (or ventricle) of the heart and extends down to the abdomen. From the aorta blood is distributed to every organ, with the exception of the lungs. Just like a big river with tributaries, the aorta splits multiple times. [1] [2]
