Français : Une des quatre plaques de bois peintes de Pitsa, trouvées en 1934, près de Sicyone, dans une grotte au-dessus du village de Pitsa, en Corinthie. Les inscriptions révèlent qu'elles étaient dédiées aux Nymphes, vénérées dans cette grotte. Les plaques de bois peintes étaient les formes les plus populaires et les plus économiques de dédicaces aux sanctuaires. Celles de Pitsa sont d'une grande valeur, car elles constituent le seul exemple de peinture corinthienne à grande échelle. Elles sont réalisées avec la technique de la "xérographie", utilisant des pigments minéraux. À l'intérieur des contours rouges ou noirs des figures, les couleurs (blanc, rouge, bleu, jaune, violet, brun, vert et noir) étaient appliquées sans gradation. Les inscriptions des dédicaces sont écrites en alphabet corinthien.
La plaque représente une procession à un autel pour sacrifier un agneau, au son de la flûte et de la lyre. La dédicace aux Grâces (Charites) est indiquée, avec les noms d'Euthydika, Eukolis, Etheloncha, et sur le côté, le nom du peintre dont ne subsiste que l'origine, Corinthien. Vers 540-530 av. J.-C.
Italiano: Particolare di un dipinto votivo (πίναξ) corinzio su tavoletta lignea del VI secolo a.C., rinvenuto in una grotta consacrata alle ninfe a Pitsà, e oggi conservato presso il Museo nazionale di Atene. Questo reperto è particolarmente prezioso perché poco o nulla è rimasto della pittura della Grecia antica su materiale ligneo essendo questo materiale altamente deperibile, in questo caso il raro fenomeno di conservazione lo si deve al deposito di cristalli di calcare sulla superficie. Il dipinto, disegnato su una base di gesso e con l'utilizzo anche del prezioso colore azzurro, mostra un corteo sacrificale (pompē) guidato dalla kanephoros. Il sacrificio è quello di un agnello (legato per mezzo di una corda rossa che ne indica la consacrazione agli dèi) dedicato alle tre Charites. Da notare il flautista (αὐλητής aulētēs) che con le note del suo strumento impone il ritmo della marcia del corteo. La presenza della musica (μουσική mousikḗ) nel sacrificio greco è a tal punto caratteristica che Erodoto (Historìai I, 132) si stupisce della sua assenza nei sacrifici dei Persiani ("I riti sacri agli dèi che sopra ho nominato si svolgono tra i Persiani in questo modo: quando si accingono a fare un sacrificio, non innalzano altari, né accendono il fuoco; non usano libagioni, non suono di flauto, non bende sacre, non salso farro." Erodoto. Storie, I, 132. Milano, Mondadori, 2007, p. 163).
In questo dipinto compaiono due strumenti, la lýra (λύρα), la cui invenzione era attribuita a Ermes, che successivamente la donò ad Apollo rendendolo così il dio della musica; e l'aulós (αὐλός) il flauto a doppia canna, la cui invenzione era attribuita ad Atena la quale lo gettò in un ruscello dopo che lo specchio d'acqua le restituì il volto deformato. Fu il satiro Marsia a recuperarlo in Frigia e a sfidare Apollo in una gara che terminerà con la sua sconfitta e quindi con il suo scorticamento vivo per aver osato sfidare un dio (Il mito è riportato in Apollodoro. Biblioteca, I,4,2.). La lýra era generalmente costruita da un guscio di tartaruga nella cui cavità venivano tese delle corde di budello o di tendine, in genere in numero di sette, strette tra due corna unite tra loro da un bastone messo di traverso. L'aulós, il flauto a doppia canna, era generalmente costruito in legno o in osso. Il suono dell'aulós somigliava piuttosto al nostro oboe che al nostro flauto. L'uso dell'aulos era proprio non solo dei sacrifici, ma anche degli esercizi ginnici e di quelli militari in quanto aiutava la concentrazione. |
