The 2015–16 season was Dunfermline Athletic's third and final season in the Scottish League One, having been relegated from the Scottish First Division at the end of the 2012–13 season.[5] In addition to the league, Dunfermline Athletic also competed in the Challenge Cup, League Cup and the Scottish Cup, where they were knocked out by St Mirren,[6] Dundee United[7] and Ross County[8] respectively. The club won the league on 26 March with five matches to spare, after defeating Brechin City 3–1 at East End Park.[9] This, together with bottom side and Fife rivals Cowdenbeath unexpectedly beating the Pars nearest rivals Peterhead 1–0,[10] saw Dunfermline return to the second tier for the first time since 2013.
