Summary
DescriptionBerlin, Mitte, Behrenstrasse, Berliner Bank 05.jpg |
English: Former building of Berliner Bank at Behrenstraße No. 46, corner of Charlottenstraße (on the right) in Berlin-Mitte, built 1900 to 1901 by the architect Wilhelm Martens. The building was taken over by Commerz- and Privatbank in 1905; a story and a mansard hip roof were added around 1920. The building was damaged in WWII and the facade was reconstructed afterwards without the original Neo-Baroque ornaments. Preserved elements include the skylighted single-story banking hall on Charlottenstraße, flanked by two office wings. The building is now main seat of Deutscher Sparkassen- und Giroverband. It has been designated as a historic landmark. |
