Summary
DescriptionCalder Valley Line geograph-2151140.jpg |
English: Freight trains on the Calder Valley main line near Mirfield. View eastward, from beside the Locomotive Depot (across the lines) towards Mirfield Station, Leeds, Wakefield etc. The westbound Class H in foreground is headed by Stanier 8F 2-8-0 No. 48146, the eastbound train behind by 8F 48095. The Depot coaling-plant is in the centre and the River Calder behind. This four-track section between Heaton Lodge Junction and Thornhill (LNW) Junction was exceptionally busy because it carried all the traffic on the west-east axis across the Pennines on both the ex-London & North Western and the ex-Lancashire & Yorkshire routes. (See also SE2019 : Eastbound empties passing Mirfield Station). |
