Description |
English: Left: Coronation of Henry the Young King by the Archbishop Roger of York (14 June 1170) Right: Henry II serves his son at the coronation feast. (The occasion inspired a famous anecdote about the banquet. Henry II wanted to serve his son in person. He approached the dias carrying what was with all probability the wild boar's head (the chief decoration of the high table, usual crowning of Christmas feasts and other festive dinners of the nobility) saying that it was not every day that a prince was served by a king. His freshly crowned son replied that it was nothing unusual for the son of a count to serve the king. - [1]) |
