English: The arms were officially granted on December 21, 1971. The arms combine elements form the old districts arms, the crayfish and cross of Trier from the former Bernkastel district arms, and enté en point embowed chequy from the former Wittlich district arms (County of Sponheim). The keys are the symbol of St. Peter, the patron saint of Trier and are derived from the arms of the city of Wittlich. |
