Summary
DescriptionTravelers Cheques of 50 USD each issued by American Express, bought ca. 2012, showing incremental serial numbering.jpg |
English: A greater number of 50 US-Dollar traveler's cheques issued by American Express, bought ca. 2012. The serial numbers are incremented by 1 on each cheque, which has a very practical purpose - when buying them (today in 2023, they have nearly vanished from the market...) one paid about 1 to 2 % of the amount to the bank, which was mainly insurance fee. One got a list with all the serials of the cheques bought (hence practical when consecutive numbers) and when cashing them at a bank or a money exchange during the journey (traveler's...) often in a foreign country, one marked the cheques just given away. When the rest got lost or stolen, one could go to a bank or American Express office with the list and got the ones which were not spent - hence lost - immediately back as new without much trouble. Hence, it was like a form of insured cash money. I hope I could bring back some "spirit of the lost way of travelling", because as far as I know this is mainly history, though still available. |
