Oakland Hills has hosted many prestigious professional golf tournaments throughout its history, including six U.S. Opens and three PGA Championships, the 2004 Ryder Cup and the 2002 and 2016 U.S. Amateur on its South Course.
On February 17, 2022, the main building was engulfed in flames. No injuries were reported. The clubhouse was having some flashing fixed when a blowtorch hit a section of the outside wall. The wood structure went up in flames.[11]
