Hi! No worries about the "its" thing, it's a common mistake. I think the easiest way to keep it straight, until you totally get it down, is just to reread any sentence you've put "it's" in and substitute "it is" for "it's". If "it is" works in the sentence, use an apostrophe; otherwise don't.
Also, when leaving comments on talk pages, you can sign them like this: ~~~~. That will yield a signature like mine here: Chowbok 15:53, 30 March 2006 (UTC)
