Une adaptation cinématographique est un film tiré d'une œuvre existante telle qu'un livre, un roman, une pièce de théâtre, un jeu vidéo (ou une série), une série télévisée ou encore un dessin animé.

Une adaptation peut être libre ou fidèle à l’œuvre.

  • Une adaptation libre est une adaptation dont de nombreux détails ont été changés comme la fin, ou certains événements importants. Des personnages ont pu être ajoutés ou retirés.
  • Une adaptation fidèle reprend l’œuvre dans les grandes lignes.
