L'Atropatène correspond au nord de la satrapie de Médie de l'ancien empire perse, aujourd'hui l'Azerbaïdjan iranien (-323 - +226).

Située dans la Médie septentrionale, la région reçoit son nom d'Atropatès, dynaste achéménide rallié à Alexandre le Grand, qui s'y rend indépendant, Peithon recouvrant le reste de la satrapie de Médie.

Elle a pour ville principale Gazaka (aujourd'hui Ganzak).
