Costus is een geslacht uit de familie Costaceae. The Plant List erkent 104 soorten. Volgens de Flora of China bestaat het geslacht uit circa negentig soorten die voorkomen in tropische en subtropische gebieden.

Een aantal soorten worden toegepast als sierplant.
