De longslagaders (pulmonary artery) aanzicht
De longslagaders[1] zijn de bloedvaten die vanuit de rechterhartkamer naar de longen gaan. Ze vertakken zich min of meer parallel aan de bronchiale boom. Vergeleken met de lichaamsslagaders, die het bloed van de linkerhartkamer naar het lichaam vervoeren, is de wand ervan veel dunner. De longslagaders zijn kort (5 cm) en dik (3 cm). De druk in de rechtercirculatie is lager dan links, en wel in de orde van 10 mm Hg. Verder is het bloed in de longslagaders zuurstofarm; het is op zijn tocht door het lichaam van de meeste zuurstof ontdaan. De longaders bevatten na de passage door de longen weer zuurstofrijk bloed dat wordt teruggevoerd naar de linkeratrium.
Er bestaan verschillende ziektebeelden waarbij de longslagaders betrokken zijn; hieronder vallen zoals de longembolie en pulmonale hypertensie.
