De 11de editie van de UEFA Cup werd gewonnen door het Zweedse IFK Göteborg in de finale tegen het Duitse Hamburger SV. Het was de eerste keer dat een Zweedse club een Europese beker won. Tot dusver slaagde geen andere club erin dit te doen, al won IFK in 1987 nog eens de UEFA Cup.
