Myntherre

Myntherre kalles den som har rett til å la prege mynter (og trykke pengesedler) i en stat. Myntherrens navn er vanligvis preget på den ene siden av mynten.[1]

Myntherrer i Norge

Helt fra den første norske mynten ble preget under Olav Tryggvason i 995, har regjerende konge hatt myntrett og vært myntherre i Norge. I perioden fra 1222 til innføringen av reformasjonen (1536), var også erkebiskopene myntherrer.
