Jorge Luis Batlle Ibáñez (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈxorxe ˈβaʎe iˈβaɲeθ]; Batlle; 25 October 1927 – 24 October 2016) was an Uruguayan politician and lawyer. He was a member of the Colorado Party. He served as the President of Uruguay from 2000 to 2005. He was thought to be one of the most popular presidents of Uruguay.[1]

Ibáñez died on the night of 24 October 2016 at a hospital in Montevideo, Uruguay from a cerebral hemorrhage after falling during an interview. He died one day short from his 89th birthday.
