Central District (Rigan County)

The Central District of Rigan County (Persian: بخش مرکزی شهرستان ریگان) is in Kerman province, Iran. Its capital is the city of Mohammadabad.[3]

After the 2006 National Census, Gavkan, Gonbaki, and Rigan Rural Districts, and the city of Mohammadabad, were separated from Bam County in the establishment of Rigan County, which was divided into two districts of two rural districts each, with Mohammadabad as its capital and only city at the time.[3]
At the census in 2011, its population was 46,150 in 12,201 households.[4] At the latest census in 2016, the district had 62,433 inhabitants in 16,468 households.[2]
In 2019, the village of Abbasabad-e Sardar was elevated to the status of a city.[5] Posht-e Rig Rural District was established in the district and Gavkan Rural District was transferred to the new Rahmatabad District.[6]
