Dover was considered a Cinque Ports constituency from 1386 to 1832.
It was formally known as Dover and Deal between 1974 and 1983 and, further to the completion of the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, the seat will revert back to that name, to be first contested at the next general election.[2]
