Malia (Greek: Μάλια) is a coastal town and municipal unit in the northeast corner of the Heraklion region of Crete, Greece, part of the municipality of Hersonissos,[2] 34 kilometres (21 miles) east of Heraklion. The population of the municipal unit was 5,501 in 2021. It also includes the villages of Mochos (Greek: Μοχός), Krasi (Greek: Κράσι), and Stalida (Greek: Σταλίδα), and has an area of 60.720 square kilometres (23.444 sq mi).[3] The town is a tourist attraction, primarily for its nightlife. Minoan ruins lie three kilometres to the east and cover an area of 1 square kilometre (0.4 sq mi).
