It was written by Emma Thompson, based on Christianna Brand's Nurse Matilda books.[4] Thompson reprises her role as Nanny McPhee, and the film also stars Maggie Gyllenhaal, Ralph Fiennes, Rhys Ifans, Ewan McGregor, Asa Butterfield and Maggie Smith.[4] The film was theatrically released on 20 August 2010 by Universal Pictures.
