Nigrita (Greek: Νιγρίτα) is a town and a former municipality in the Serres regional unit, Macedonia, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Visaltia, of which it is the seat and a municipal unit.[2] The municipal unit has an area of 160.888 km2.[3] It is situated in the wide plain south of the river Strymonas, at the northern foot of the Kerdylio mountains, in the southern part of the Serres regional unit. Nigrita is located 22 km south of Serres, and 92 km northeast of Thessaloniki.
