ವಿಕಿಪೀಡಿಯ:VisualEditor
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Welcome to the portal for the VisualEditor, a new way of editing Wikipedia being developed by the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF). Editors have long had to learn some wikimarkup to make most edits. In 2001, this difficulty was acceptable; in 2013, it drives away some contributors. VisualEditor allows people to edit without having to learn wikitext markup and will hopefully encourage more readers to become editors.
Wikimedia Foundation developers are working on VisualEditor (VE), a way to edit pages without needing to learn wikitext markup. VisualEditor is available to logged-in users alongside the original wikitext editor if you opt-in, by changing your preferences. (Unregistered users do not have access to preferences.)
If you would like to try VisualEditor without editing an article, here is a page where you can freely do so, and you do not need an account to use it.
Bug reports and comments are welcome at Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Feedback. Your help in identifying bugs and training new users is invaluable.
VisualEditor is in beta testing. It can't yet do everything that the wikitext editor can do, still has some bugs, and is slow for some users. Although experienced editors will be more efficient with wikitext editing, VisualEditor is intended to be more user-friendly for new editors; for example, it includes dialogs to insert a new image or edit a complex template or reference.
Attention Internet Explorer (IE) users: At the moment, VisualEditor does not work with Internet Explorer. The developers are working on support for IE9, IE10, and IE11.

Experienced editors may prefer editing wikitext because they find it faster and more precise. Editing articles purely in wikitext is and will remain an option that the Wikimedia Foundation has no plans to remove. Both editing options are accessible from the toolbar above each article and user page for users who have opted in.
