He played for Scunthorpe United, Grimsby Town, Huddersfield Town, Blackpool, Sheffield United, Walsall, Doncaster Rovers, Boston United and Farsley Celtic. Butler is also a qualified referee,[2] and has had two interim spells as Doncaster Rovers manager.
